Eggy Kids Hash

The Easter kids run is one of the highlights in the kids hash calendar. Its messy, eggy and for many (not me!) plenty of fun. We had a big turnout for the run last sunday, the highest for any run in a while.

The "run" itself was excellent. Iman had gone ahead with her friends so Donncha and I only had the boys on the medium trail. Diplo is my favorite site anyway and the hares did not disappoint us. It was probably the best kiddies hash run we ever did - such a magical site Diplo! And the boys even ran some sections - just think in a few years we will have to keep up with them!

After the shout out it was on to the egg throwing. Nobody knows exactly when this was started or what we are really supposed to do. My understanding two years ago was to pair up and throw eggs for the other to catch. Inevitably it all goes into a throwing frenzy and this year it escalated to that pretty quickly.

And the result, very very eggy people. I can't do raw eggs so I treaded around very carefully, taking pictures from a good distance!

And of course Ayden had to do funny faces with special friend Alex.

The "Baby" Easter Bunny

Ayden made these cute bunny ears at Kindy. He was also proud of his Easter basket. There are many projects in Kindy that have not changed in years and Ayden have completed projects that even Iman did at Kindy. The egg basket reminded me of Jack's two year's ago. It's Ayden's last term in Kindy and in August our "baby" starts Reception which will be a new phase for the McCarthy family with all three in proper school.

Jack's Party

Better late than never - apologies especially to the Grandparents who have probably been waiting for these photographs!

Ayden with last minute colouring to the pinata - check out the concentration on the face.
Thumbs up to Fatin for decorating the pinata.

Main party piece

Last minute pass the parcel thanks to the two below

Ayden's getting very good at pulling faces for the camera

A cake for Jack

Unfortunately, Jack was feeling a little warm late last week so we postponed his 'party' with friends until next weekend so instead, we had a small family gathering with a cake at his grandparents house. Needless to say the local bakery provided a lovely cake decorated to Jack's requirement. It's always fun when all the kids get together with everyone enjoying each others company despite the age differences.

Reeham is starting to engage properly with the rest of the kids and has moved on from his whining phase (thank god!)

Big Smiles all round

Our Jack is 6!

It was a very early wake up call but we had one very happy birthday boy. And even happier when he opened his presents, Nerf and Lego!! So we've had a very busy morning already!

When I get older....

Fatin has a special way with Ayden. For her he'll sing, dance, act and all on camera. Think this he did about a month ago - Ayden is singing favorite song and he's always adamant that no one else can sing it as good as he does!

Everyone's Valentine

Roti Canai or simply Roti is a firm favorite in the McCarthy household (see this post). In Brunei its mainly a breakfast thing but this stall close to our apartment in KL only opens in the evening. Best Roti Canai... this we had to try. In fact the kids tried it the night before and it was so good that there were no protests to go again.

Jack had been raving about the nasi bungkus with its fiery sambal. I shared one with him and we all agreed the sambal was spot on!

Meanwhile at the back of the stall, the roti man was busy....

...very busy

The end result. Paper thin, crispy and three sauces to go with it. The sign board was not lying! Our verdict: 10/10 probably the best roti we have ever had!!!

And plenty of teh tarik to go with it!

I had a dosa but it wasn't as great as the roti

The drinks counter. I must admit, I can be pretty fussy but for a roadside stall this place was very clean. As for the bill.. our table of eight had about 8 rotis, 1 dosa, 3 rice and about a dozen drinks. The total was Rm 25 equivalent to B$10 / Stg 5.15 / 5.80 euro !!! Think we'll be going back.

44 Years

Yesterday my parents celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. It's wonderful and inspirational to have parents who are both so happy together :))

With everyone back home, there's no better way to celebrate than having makan together and this morning we went to the Tarindak cafe on the beach behind the Polo Club. We were able to relax and chat while the kids played on the sand.

And afterwards the group photos! Check out Ayden's pose.

And a silly one. Amin gets top points for jumping on cue!
