Derrynane Beach, Caherdaniel

We woke up to a dry Waterville and without a second thought we packed up the car and headed to the beach - via a foggy mountain pass - but we were not disappointed when we got there ~ it was truly glorious. Derrynane beach is one of the many blue flag beaches in the area and with soft sand, the kids were totally immersed. The idea was to have a quick look at the beach and then pay a quick visit to Derrynane House , the ancestral home of Daniel O'Connell a lawyer, politician and statesman of the 1800s. But of course we never got there and spend most of the morning in the sand and jumping waves. Its the Atlantic so the water IS cold but it didn't seem to bother Jack and Ayden too much. On a soppy note, the last time Donncha and myself came here was back in 1999 and back then it would not have entered our wildest dreams that we would be back here 11 years later with our three children complete with hurleys, buckets + spades and tennis rackets!
