Several few weeks ago this sizeable monitor was spotted feasting in the fishpond next to my parents house. After much careful planning by the gardeners it was caught some days later. It was then tied up to a tree for the day and the kids were all very excited to see it. I told the gardener to release it back into the wild and he muttered that he would take it to his friend's place. These lizards are a popular game meat amongst the Thais and Indonesians and my guess was it ended up in a cooking pot!
